Three puppies found discarded in a California dumpster are now on the path to recovery.
The trio of young German Shepherds was discovered in a dumpster at a business park in San Dimas, California, on Sunday, September 1. The upsetting news was posted on the ‘Lost and Found Pets of La Verne and San Dimas’ Facebook group.
“An employee came across these dogs in the trash at 949 Cataract Avenue, San Dimas, at a business park, but unfortunately, animal control was closed,” wrote Linda Denise Valdez, a colleague of the employee, on the group’s page. “The employee couldn’t assist further as he is currently living in a motel and lacks transportation.”
Valdez mentioned that the puppies were “hungry” and in urgent need of care and rescue. Carolyn Castro, an administrator for the Lost Pets Facebook group, shared a follow-up post stating that she had retrieved the puppies but was still searching for a foster home or rescue organization to take them in.
“We need a foster until the shelter opens or a rescue organization to take these poor pups until we can determine whether they were stolen and dumped or simply abandoned…” Castro wrote on Facebook, accompanied by several photos of the rescued German Shepherd puppies.
Castro explained that the puppies were initially discovered when the employee “heard them crying” from inside the dumpster.
“I’ve picked them up, but they don’t have any microchips,” she added. “I really need someone with a larger space and a kennel to foster them. These poor babies were starving and thirsty. Please message me.”
In an interview with KTLA, Castro said she is currently looking after the puppies and arranging medical care for them with the support of the dog rescue organization Big Dog Haven.
She also mentioned plans to review surveillance footage from the business park where the puppies were found, in hopes of identifying who abandoned them in the dumpster.
