Dog Who Spent 10 Whole Years Leashed Near A Cliff Tears Up When He Finally Sees Kind Humans

Maru, an incredibly sweet dog, is at the center of this story. If he could speak, it’s likely he’d trade all his newfound fame for a different life. For ten long years, Maru was neglected, tethered in perilous spot near a cliff, yet he never lost hope for a better future. Maru’s journey began fourteen years ago when he was a young puppy. His initial owner bought him for a significant sum and kept him for four years. But then, Maru’s life took a tragic turn.

When Maru was handed over to a new owner, he found himself leashed outside, an unimaginable fate for such a gentle soul. For most of his life, Maru was confined to a small structure perilously close to a cliff’s edge. “The situation we encountered was among the worst we’ve seen,” noted the rescue team on Instagram. “The small shelter, which was meant to be a home, was dangerously close to a cliff.” –CONTINUE BELOW

Maru spent years huddled under a flimsy metal sheet, his only protection from the elements, forced to endure harsh weather and relieve himself in the same spot. When WEACT learned of Maru’s plight, they immediately launched a rescue mission. They were deeply saddened to find that Maru had spent his senior years without ever experiencing the comfort of a true home.

The rescue team transported him to their facility, where Maru, initially nervous, quickly felt at ease once he received a hearty meal. Though his fur gave the impression of a well-fed dog, the reality was starkly different.

A grooming session revealed the extent of Maru’s suffering: beneath his tangled fur, he was severely underweight and in need of at least fifteen pounds to reach his ideal weight. His body bore scars, many teeth were missing, and he was diagnosed with stage-2 heartworms. Yet, through it all, Maru remained affectionate and eager for human connection, clearly relieved to be away from his previous confinement. –CONTINUE BELOW
