Woman Took In This Adorable Rescue Dog Only To Realize He Was Full Of Surprises

Robin Wagner from Burlington, Vermont, and her boyfriend had been searching for the perfect dog for a long time when they discovered Blaze’s adoption profile online. It was love at first sight.

However, once they brought him home, they were surprised to learn about his teeth. “We didn’t even know about the teeth before he came home. That was quite the surprise,” Robin shared. They also found out that, despite his sunken eyes, Blaze didn’t seem to have vision problems. After a visit to a veterinary ophthalmologist, they learned he was completely blind in his right eye and needed surgery to try to save any vision in his left. WATCH VIDEO BELOW

Though this news was disheartening, they were determined to help their beloved boy. Unfortunately, the surgery didn’t succeed, and Blaze became fully blind. He handled the change with remarkable grace, learning to navigate his world despite the challenges.

They also worked closely with a trainer to help him regain confidence, as his blindness led to anxiety and reactivity. Through consistent communication, they’ve helped alleviate his fears. WATCH VIDEO BELOW

Interestingly, their cat, Satin, has taken on the role of Blaze’s guide cat! She uses her meows and chirps to alert him, helping him avoid obstacles. “Every time he’d start to walk toward her, she would meow, and he would stop and redirect himself,” Robin said. Despite the challenges, Robin emphasizes that adopting Blaze has been one of the most rewarding decisions they’ve made. “He’s taught us so much about resilience and love,” she said.
