As an animal rescuer, you can never predict where your next life-saving mission will take you. You certainly can’t be prepared for everything that awaits. When a passerby was walking next to an abandoned laundromat in Indiana, they never expected to hear cries for help coming from inside. However, those loud, desperate sounds drew them in, leading to a shocking discovery in a pit on the floor.
Startled, the passerby saw two heartbroken pairs of eyes peering up from the pit. Upon closer inspection, they realized that two extremely malnourished pit bulls had been trapped there, waiting who knows how long for rescue. The passerby immediately called for help. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
Within minutes, animal control officer Mari and two volunteers, Kelly and Jay, from Silverstray Social in Gary, Indiana, arrived at the scene. Despite their experience with many rescue missions, this particular sight left them in disbelief. The dogs’ condition made it clear they had endured significant neglect for a long time.
Barely able to stand due to starvation and covered in wounds, the pups looked up at their rescuers. “Two innocent dogs were trapped in a pit—abandoned, starving, and clinging to life! Silverstray and Gary Animal Control pulled them from the depths of despair,” the Silverstray team shared on social media. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
Finally seeing the light of day, the pups wagged their tails joyfully as the rescuers began to care for them. They enjoyed a nourishing meal after what felt like an eternity. With no name tags, microchips, or any identifying information, the pups embarked on a new journey.
Fortunately, they didn’t have to wait long for a fresh start. Named Cheer and Suds, the two pups received essential veterinary care and round-the-clock attention. Once their treatment was complete, they were placed in foster homes, allowing them to experience the warmth of a loving environment for possibly the first time in their lives. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
Thanks to the compassionate rescuers and the incredible community support, Cheer and Suds are on the road to recovery. They will finally get to enjoy all the things they missed, including proper care, affection, and socialization with humans and other dogs.
