Hearts Shattered Upon Reading A Note Left With Two Dogs Tied To A Fence

When staff members at Bloomfield Animal Shelter (BAS) in New Jersey arrived at work one morning, they were shocked to find two abandoned dogs at the gate. The canines looked up at their rescuers with disillusioned expressions, their eyes reflecting the sorrow they felt after watching their owner walk away. As the staff rushed to comfort the devastated dogs, they discovered that the pups were tied to a fence, accompanied by a note.

The rescuers’ hearts broke as they read the note from the dogs’ owner: “Hi. I am sorry, but my babies deserve to live their golden years happy and in a good, warm home for the winter. I can’t take care of them while living on the street. Our home was foreclosed on, putting us out on the street.” CONTINUE BELOW

The desperate owner requested that the staff not euthanize the dogs and that they be kept together. They learned the dogs’ names were Shadow and Tiger, brothers born on October 12, 2009, described as friendly with other pets and affectionate toward humans. Feeling overwhelmed, the rescuers posted a call for help on social media, seeking a foster home for Shadow and Tiger. Fortunately, Scooby-Doo’s Rescue Mission (SDRM) in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, stepped in to offer a safe haven for the siblings.

Christine Biggiani Bakelaar, the owner of the rescue, rushed to the shelter to collect Shadow and Tiger. The sweet pups captured her heart the moment she saw their photos. When Bakelaar picked them up, the dogs seemed to smile, as if they understood they would never be alone again. CONTINUE BELOW

She found a wonderful foster home for the brothers on a farm. Once they moved in, Shadow and Tiger were given time to decompress. With their loving foster family showering them with affection, the pups gradually began to feel safe and secure.

The New Jersey rescue hopes to reconnect with the dogs’ previous family to learn more about their medical history. Bakelaar expressed sadness over the difficult situation their owner faced and hoped to hear from them. CONTINUE BELOW

“If anyone sees this and knows the family, please have them reach out to me. No questions asked; I just want to learn more about them and assure their owner that their boys are okay,” Bakelaar wrote.

For now, these adorable seniors are thriving in their foster home and enjoying life on the farm.
