Birth is undeniably one of life’s most extraordinary moments. The dedicated staff at a West Virginia shelter knows this well. When an adorable Greyhound went into labor, the team gathered together to welcome the new puppies with open arms.

With a large litter to care for, it was all hands on deck. When one of the patients at Cross Lanes Vet’s office required an emergency C-section, every staff member on duty scrubbed in, gathered supplies, and eagerly awaited the arrival of the pups. As each puppy was delivered, they were gently handed over to the staff for quick checkups and a little bath. Once the last Greyhound pup was born, the surgeon successfully closed up the mother and confirmed that the procedure had gone well. CONTINUE BELOW

With all the puppies in perfect health, the medical team turned their attention to the mother, ensuring she had the best possible recovery. The little family is now enjoying their time together, with the mother diligently keeping her pups clean and well-fed. When the time is right, each of these adorable puppies is sure to find a loving home where they will be cherished. If you have a pregnant dog who is about to give birth, creating a safe and comfortable environment for her labor is essential. Designate a calm, private area in your home where the mother dog can feel safe and undisturbed. This will help ease her anxiety and allow her to relax.

Maintaining cleanliness is crucial. Keep the birthing area clean and hygienic to prevent diseases and infections. Regularly change and wash the bedding, and have clean towels or papers on hand to ensure a tidy environment. CONTINUE BELOW

Be prepared to assist if needed, but give her space if she seems to be managing well on her own. Trust that she knows what to do! Additionally, keep your vet’s phone number handy for any emergencies. Familiarize yourself with the birthing process so you can act quickly if something goes wrong.

After the puppies arrive, make sure the mother is comfortable and nursing them. Provide her with fresh water and a nutritious meal, as she will need extra nourishment. It’s also a good idea to have the vet check on her and the puppies to ensure everyone is healthy. CONTINUE BELOW

By following these guidelines and being well-prepared, you can create a safe and nurturing environment for the puppies to enter the world, setting the stage for a happy and healthy life!
