Stray dogs roam the streets in search of food and shelter, facing days filled with fear and uncertainty. Many end up in dangerous situations, waiting for kind-hearted people to rescue them and bring hope for a better tomorrow. Miley was one such pup, helplessly lying in the grass on the side of a highway, lacking the strength to stand. In July 2023, several callers alerted Stray Rescue of St. Louis about a stray dog in need of help.
When one caller provided the exact mile marker, Donna Lochmann knew where to find the frightened dog. Rushing to the scene, she discovered a malnourished and weary Miley lying in the grass. Heartbroken by the sight, Lochmann approached slowly to avoid scaring the pup further. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
Speaking gently, she offered treats to gain Miley’s trust. The sad dog responded by wagging her tail, relieved to have someone who cared. Miley allowed Lochmann to place a leash around her neck, but her weak legs wobbled, and she collapsed. As Lochmann moved closer, Miley gave her a heartfelt kiss, melting the rescuer’s heart. While carrying her up a steep hill to the car, Miley showered her with gratitude.
Once at Stray Rescue, Miley underwent a thorough medical checkup. Sadly, the staff discovered she was ill and had been scavenging for food along the highway. After a bath to remove fleas, Miley couldn’t wait to shower Lochmann with more kisses. Her caregivers were confident she would make a full recovery. Despite her rough past, Miley remained affectionate, winning the hearts of everyone she met. Soon, she was ready for foster care, where her new family in St. Louis welcomed her with open arms. As she settled into her loving home, Miley began to regain her energy, filling the house with joy. Her foster mom noted how Miley expressed her gratitude through her affectionate nature. Having made a complete recovery, Miley was now searching for her forever home. We believe that a sweet dog like her will soon find loving parents who will cherish her as she deserves.
