One summer morning, the Cuse Pit Crew (CPC), a nonprofit based in Syracuse, N.Y., arrived at work expecting a typical day. Instead, they faced a challenging situation when they learned that a senior dog named Max had been left tied up in a park. The team quickly contacted the Syracuse Police and Dog Control and met at the park to provide Max with the help he urgently needed. As advocates for responsible Pit Bull ownership, seeing Max alone and depressed was heartbreaking for the crew.

“This morning, sweet Max was tied to a picnic bench in Schiller Park, along with a note. We arrived with the Syracuse Police and Dog Control, who took pictures and transported Max to the emergency vet for care,” the Cuse Pit Crew shared on Facebook. CONTINUE STORY BELOW

Before they could get Max into their vehicle, they noticed a note taped to a pole nearby. It read: “I’m a good boy. I am 17 years old. My name is Max. My owners can’t take care of me anymore. Please help me!” The CPC coordinated with local authorities to find Max a temporary home where he could relax and recover. They also emphasized that this situation could have been prevented with better awareness of available resources.

“Max is not the first dog to be abandoned in a park, and he won’t be the last. This could have been avoided if more people knew about our services. We’re not a rescue, but we can help problem-solve without judgment, so pet owners feel safe reaching out for assistance,” they added. The CPC later updated the community, revealing that after his medical evaluations, Max was taken in by the wonderful team at HumaneCNY, who found him a loving temporary home.  CONTINUE STORY BELOW

He is receiving treatment for infections in his ears and eyes, as well as care for his arthritis. With attention and nurturing, this sweet boy is thriving!

Max’s new family is focused on getting him back to a healthy weight with nutritious meals. With time and care, he is sure to grow stronger and eventually find a loving forever home that will give him the happy life he deserves. Good luck, Max—great things are coming your way! CONTINUE STORY BELOW
