Electrician Saw Something Watching Him From An Abandoned House So He Went To Check It Out

Some true heroes in our communities don’t seek recognition or praise—they simply act with kindness and compassion, often in quiet, unseen ways. They might not wear capes, but they have hearts of gold. Today’s hero is a man from Detroit, an electrician by trade, who noticed something unusual and took immediate action to help. While working on an abandoned house, Marc, a DTE electrician, noticed two sets of eyes staring at him from the backyard. Intrigued and concerned, he moved closer to investigate and found two young puppies huddled together. One appeared to be injured, and both were thin and clearly malnourished.

Marc tried to approach them gently, hoping to gain their trust. But the puppies were understandably wary, keeping their distance despite his efforts. “I usually carry treats in my truck, but I was out…they wanted to trust me but just weren’t sure,” Marc shared in a comment on the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue (DPCDR) page.  Wanting to help but recognizing he needed support, Marc reached out to DPCDR, a local organization dedicated to rescuing injured and sick strays. When the rescue team arrived, they learned that some neighborhood kids had been feeding the puppies, but they had no permanent home or caretaker. “The electrician reported that one pup seemed hurt, and both were underweight. Neighbors said kids fed them occasionally, but they were strays,” DPCDR wrote.

At first, the puppies were hesitant to approach Sumpter and her team, who spent about 30 minutes patiently coaxing them with treats. Slowly, the puppies’ apprehension faded, and they allowed the rescuers to approach and gently place them in a crate. Once at the vet for their initial check-up, the puppies—now named Grace and Mercy—remained cautious and shy, unsure of what awaited them. But the team was patient, understanding it would take time for these dogs to adjust to a life with caring humans. CONTINUE BELOW

Over the following two weeks, something wonderful happened: with consistent love and gentle interaction, both Grace and Mercy began to open up. They came out of their shells, growing more comfortable and trusting of the people around them.

It turned out that all they needed was a bit of compassion to start trusting again. Now that they’ve had a taste of what life could be like in a safe, loving home, Grace and Mercy are ready for adoption.
