Shocked Passerby Notices Senior Dog Stranded On Submerged Shopping Cart In The Middle Of The Canal

The recent story of Dorothea, a 10-year-old Chihuahua mix, left Phoenix residents shocked and deeply moved. This senior pup somehow found herself stranded on a shopping cart in a hazardous canal, exhausted and barely hanging on to life. Terrified, without any way to escape, she clung to the cart as her last hope. A passerby noticed what appeared to be a strange “object” floating in the canal. When they took a closer look, they were stunned to see that it was alive – not an object at all, but a small dog in desperate need of help.

Dorothea’s predicament quickly drew the attention of the concerned bystander, who called for assistance. Soon, rescue teams from the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) and the Phoenix Fire Department arrived at the scene. Hunter Stribling, an AHS medical technician, joined forces with the rescue team to save Dorothea as quickly as possible. Both teams knew that every second counted. CONTINUE  STORY BELOW

Using a ladder, they carefully approached the frightened dog, who appeared paralyzed by fear. Thankfully, the mission ended in success as Dorothea was finally brought to safety. Stribling and his team were overjoyed. Dorothea’s dramatic rescue quickly captured national attention, highlighting the incredible efforts AHS makes to support vulnerable animals. Fortunately, this brave little dog was one of the lucky ones.

She was promptly taken to a hospital for a full examination. Aside from dehydration, tick infestation, and a few broken teeth, Dorothea was in surprisingly good shape. Soon after, she joined her new friends at the AHS facility, where she adapted to a safe, nurturing environment. Despite her age, her adorable personality and lively spirit instantly won over everyone she met. “During her month of care at the shelter, including a special spa day with AHS’s groomer, Dorothea proved to be a sweet, cuddly girl who thrived on human attention,” the AHS shared in a post. Just days later, Dorothea’s rescuers received the best news possible. A family had reached out, eager to adopt her and give her the loving home she deserved! Given her affectionate nature and her charm, the AHS team was thrilled to see her find the perfect family.

Now, Dorothea can look forward to rolling in the grass, enjoying leisurely walks, and sharing countless adventures with her new family.
