Rescuers from Garland Animal Services (GAS) quickly responded, joined by firefighters from the Garland Fire Department (GFD). One firefighter stepped into the water, making his way to the narrow bank where the motionless dog sat. After initially trying to coax him into the water, he began to gently pet the dog to help him relax. This strategy worked; the dog soon warmed up, allowing the firefighter to scoop him up and bring him to safety.
The fire department later shared a video of the rescue on Facebook, garnering significant attention. Initially unaware that the dog had an owner, the rescuers soon found a collar with contact information. They connected with the dog’s owner, Joan Landry, who shared the story of her missing pet. The community in Sachse, Texas, where she lived with Bubba, had rallied together to search for him. When she received the call about her dog’s rescue, her joy was immeasurable, though she remained puzzled about how he ended up in the creek. “Did he just jump in for a swim because it was hot?” she wondered during an interview with WFAA.
