You never know when someone in trouble might need your help. You could be coming home from work and stumble upon a car crash, or perhaps you’re walking around your neighborhood and notice a house fire starting. Surprises never stay idle, whether they’re pleasant or not. Some are significant changes, while others may seem minor at first glance but are still worthy of attention.
Belle didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary that day. When she stepped outside her friend’s house that afternoon, she was suddenly rushed to the other side of the street. Something felt off, but Belle didn’t hesitate; whoever needed help was in dire straits. The woman led her to a bushy area where she revealed something fluffy curled up in the underbrush. It was a dog—a severely matted one, but still very much alive. Belle and the woman knew they had to act quickly. But how could they rescue a dog so frightened of humans that she wouldn’t even look at them? After some reassurance that they meant no harm, the frightened dog finally allowed Belle to lead her away.
Swiftie was taken to get scanned for a microchip, but there was no positive match; she was a stray without a home. That’s when Belle decided to step in and give Swiftie a temporary home. After cleaning her, they gave Swiftie a fresh cut, revealing a significant surprise: she was pregnant! Belle planned to contact local shelters to ensure Swiftie and her puppies would be well taken care of. However, the next morning, Swiftie gave birth to seven puppies! Each puppy received a unique name: Traffic Light, Lover, Augustine, Lavender, Haze, Cowboy, and Saturn quickly became beloved members of the Bermudez household. CONTINUE BELOW
The plan was to keep them only until Swiftie recovered from giving birth, but as two puppies began to lose weight, Belle started supplementing their diet and decided to foster everyone until they were eight weeks old and ready for adoption. The puppies were born in June 2023, and by August, some had already found their forever homes.
Swiftie, a mix of miniature Poodle and Pekingese—often called a Peekapoo—found her new family and couldn’t be happier. While Belle felt sadness at the thought of losing her daily puppy cuddles, she was filled with joy for having raised such beautiful souls and was proud of her role in rescuing Swiftie. Swiftie transformed into a brand-new dog, one that craved love and was eager to give it in return. Although it will be challenging to keep track of all seven puppies and their mom in their new homes, we hope Belle shares occasional updates on her TikTok account.
