When a Good Samaritan heard strange noises coming from a dumpster, they quickly realized that those sounds were actually the cries of a dog in distress. They immediately contacted the Tullahoma Animal Shelter to report the situation. Rescuers David Reed and Chris Cabral rushed to the location.
Upon arrival, they peered into the dumpster, and what they saw broke their hearts. At the bottom lay a pup tightly bound in a white trash bag, unable to breathe and silent. Fearing the worst, Reed and Cabral quickly grabbed a net and fished the bag out of the dumpster. They anxiously cut it open, and when they saw the state of the pup, they thought they were too late. “He was not moving, crying, or barking. When he began to breathe, they immediately contacted one of our veterinarians for emergency care,” Tullahoma Animal Shelter’s animal control manager, Cheryl Rhoads, told The Dodo. The pup, named Oscar, was rushed to the vet, where he received subcutaneous fluids, necessary medications, and a much-needed haircut. Initially, this Yorkie weighed six pounds, but after the vets removed the severe mats from his fragile body, his weight dropped to four and a half pounds.
In a healthy and loving environment, Oscar quickly began to feel and look better. Although he is currently part of an active investigation to determine what happened to him, he is not available for adoption despite numerous offers. Fortunately, he became a foster pet with a loving family who is dedicated to helping him regain his health. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
And he’s loving it! “Oscar has some sass. His favorite activity is burrowing under blankets for a nap. He also enjoys being held, but only on his terms,” Rhoads said. While he’s not fond of taking his medication, such as eye ointment and drops, or having cream applied for an infection, he loves to snuggle into blankets for his naps.
His rescuers are overjoyed to see him transform from a pup fighting for his life to one who is enjoying life and having endless fun. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
