One day, a man named William Ortiz was driving along a busy highway in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, when he noticed something unusual. In the middle of the road lay a mysterious creature, helpless and in need of assistance. Despite the cars speeding past, no one stopped to see what was wrong.

Without hesitation, William pulled over to help. Navigating through the rush of traffic, he patiently made his way to the injured animal. When he arrived, his heart sank at the sight before him. He quickly realized he needed to call for help. WATCH VIDEO BELOW

In front of him was a young, injured red-tailed hawk, unable to move due to its precarious situation. It appeared the poor bird had been struck by a car, and the heartless driver had continued on without a second glance. Fortunately, William was there at the right moment and immediately contacted the Raven Ridge Wildlife Center for assistance.

Located nearby, the rescue team arrived quickly, but the condition of the hawk was shocking. “I just can’t imagine the pain and agony that bird was in,” wildlife rehabilitator Tracie Young told The Dodo. The hawk’s injuries were severe: both eyes were shut, it could barely stand, and it suffered from torticollis and head trauma. The staff were initially uncertain if the hawk would survive. However, after 72 hours of intensive care, a miracle occurred—the hawk opened its eyes and was able to stand on its own. The improvement was remarkable, and the rescuers couldn’t have been happier. As the wildlife center assessed his readiness for recovery, Young quickly found an experienced falconer to continue his rehabilitation. During this phase, the hawk would not only fully recover but also learn essential skills for survival in the wild. This process could last until spring when he would be released back into his natural habitat.

With everything going according to plan, the hawk was thriving. The RRWC even shared a video showing his transformation, highlighting the incredible progress he made. Soon, it would be time for him to spread his wings again. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
