Many dogs find themselves in distressing situations through no fault of their own. Life on the streets, combined with harsh temperatures, inadequate shelter, and insufficient food, takes a heavy toll on these animals, leaving them in despair. One such story comes from Virginia, where a dog was discovered in such terrible condition that rescuers initially mistook her for a different breed. This dog, who would later be named Glowup, surrendered hopelessly to her rescuers, who immediately began her recovery process—and she surprised everyone!
Animal control in Petersburg, Virginia, picked up Glowup and swiftly transferred her to the Richmond Animal League, which welcomed her with open arms. When she arrived at the facility, her condition was dire. She suffered from a severe case of demodectic mange, which led the staff to initially believe she was a Shar Pei. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
“When this sweet girl arrived, her skin was severely affected by Demodex. She was missing fur, covered in scabs, and her skin was thickened,” RAL shared on Facebook. Despite her grim condition, her caregivers dedicated themselves to helping her recover. Glowup received regular medications and medicated baths, but the most important aspect of her healing was the abundance of love from her caretakers.
With daily tender care combined with medical treatment, Glowup began to come out of her shell and embark on a remarkable transformation. Everyone at the rescue soon fell in love with her wonderful personality. Within just a few weeks, Glowup was well on her way to a full recovery. Her skin began to heal, and she finally found herself on stable ground. Glowup’s recovery also revealed the truth about her breed. Instead of being a Shar Pei as initially thought, the shelter staff discovered she was a delightful Pitbull mix with an incredible personality. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
In a Facebook post, the Richmond Animal League shared her “before and after” photos, highlighting her amazing transformation during the recovery process. She blossomed into a joyful dog, finally surrounded by people who loved her. Although her past remains somewhat of a mystery, it’s clear that Glowup will never have to face uncertainty again.
