Growing up on the streets is a tough life for many animals, often leading to a deep mistrust of humans. This makes it challenging for kind-hearted individuals to rescue them and provide safe havens. Such was the case with Lunch Lady. This pup had spent most of her life fending for herself before ending up at the Louisiana SPCA. Catching her required the time and effort of several staff members.
Once she was brought into their facility, the staff promptly scanned her for a microchip to check for any missing pet reports. After a thorough examination and treatment for minor health issues, it was clear that no one had come to claim her. So, she was microchipped, vaccinated, and prepared for adoption. Her name, inspired by her tendency to be spotted during lunchtime, fit her perfectly, according to Jessyca Sulfsted, the marketing and communications manager at Louisiana SPCA. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
Though initially wary of her new caregivers, Lunch Lady gradually grew more comfortable, blossoming into an affectionate and cuddly companion. It became evident that all she wanted was a forever home, but first, she needed some basic training.
Since it was likely that Lunch Lady had never experienced life in a home, the staff knew they needed to teach her some essential skills, starting with leash walking. To help potential adopters understand her needs, they placed a sign on her kennel that read, “Hi, I need help learning to walk on a leash.” WATCH VIDEO BELOW
At first, Lunch Lady was confused and would crouch down as if sneaking into a snack room. However, with consistent practice, she improved significantly. “She has shown so much progress, and we’re confident she’ll be a pro soon,” Sulfsted shared.
Lunch Lady would thrive in a home with active humans who encourage her to keep learning and growing. She loves to snuggle on the couch and enjoys cozy evenings.
