Some dogs take time to adjust to new surroundings or the arrival of a new family member, but others, like Kendall, seem to embrace these changes effortlessly. When Kendall’s family welcomed a new baby, she immediately stepped up, becoming an adoring, protective “nanny” to her new little brother. From that moment on, Kendall’s devotion only grew, leaving her owners, Emily and her husband, in awe.
Emily Wright, Kendall’s owner, adopted her from a high-euthanasia shelter after Kendall had been surrendered by her previous family. Reflecting on that decision, Emily shared, “She’s an absolute treasure of a dog. They may have let her go, but if they hadn’t, she wouldn’t be a part of our family. Best dog ever.” Along with their other dog, Tiger, Kendall quickly became a beloved part of their Texas home. CONTINUE STORY BELOW
When Emily and her husband’s son, Austin, was born, Kendall instinctively began to “mother” him. “The moment Austin was born, she became his caretaker,” Emily said in an interview. Kendall would quietly check on him, often giving his head a gentle lick to reassure herself he was okay. The couple, watching through the baby monitor, couldn’t believe the tender bond between their son and their loyal dog. Kendall and Austin soon became inseparable. Though Austin may not have asked for a furry babysitter, he and Kendall grew to be the best of friends, with Kendall always maintaining her nurturing side.
Life was happy for the family until one day, a routine visit to the vet changed everything. After noticing Kendall was struggling to eat, Emily and her husband took her in, fearing something was wrong. Their worst fears were confirmed—Kendall was diagnosed with lymphoblastic lymphoma. Heartbroken, the couple immediately sought options to help extend her life. Thanks to the support of multiple organizations that assist with pet medical expenses, they were able to fund Kendall’s chemotherapy. CONTINUE STORY BELOW
To everyone’s joy, Kendall responded incredibly well to treatment. In October 2024, Lexi’s Legacy Foundation in Irvine, California, shared a touching update: after months of treatment, Kendall was officially in remission. The timing was perfect. Emily and her husband had just welcomed another baby, Amon, and true to form, Kendall resumed her role as “nanny,” bonding with the new addition to the family. Emily expressed her joy on Facebook, writing, “Now she’s helping raise our second child, and my heart just can’t take it.”
Emily hopes Kendall will continue making memories with the family for years to come. For now, Kendall is thriving, savoring each day and embracing her nurturing role once again. Stay strong, Kendall, and keep spreading love! CONTINUE STORY BELOW
