When a fellow rescuer reached out about 16 dogs abandoned in the California desert, one man was shocked by the distressing situation. It was a Saturday, and with Animal Control closed, the caller urgently pleaded for help to save these poor pups stranded in the scorching heat. Without hesitation, the man gathered his supplies, rallied a team of rescuers, and set off with a mission to give these dogs a chance at safety.

The pups, struggling under the blazing desert sun, had managed to find some shelter in an abandoned house. Despite the rescuers’ attempts to build trust, most of the dogs were extremely wary and hesitant to approach, prompting the team to devise a careful plan to help each one. To avoid scaring the pups, the rescuers decided to gently lure them, one at a time, to a quieter area where they could be approached safely. Some of the dogs, however, were so fearful that they would grow defensive whenever a human drew near. Not wanting the dogs to run off into the desert, the rescuers set up traps filled with tasty treats, hoping to coax them without causing alarm. CONTINUE FOR PHOTOS BELOW

As the hours went by, more and more dogs were secured in kennels, and gradually, the empty house became quieter. Fortunately, they were able to arrange temporary foster homes for most of the pups. When their transport was full, one team transported the first group of dogs to their foster homes while another group stayed behind to capture the remaining pups.

Thanks to the dedicated team from The Animal Rescue Center of California, all 16 pups were finally brought to safety. Yet, word came that another dog had been spotted alone in the desert. The team decided to leave an extra trap at the abandoned house, hoping the lone pup would return looking for its friends. Sure enough, the next day, the pup found his way back, and the rescuers were able to bring him to safety. CONTINUE FOR PHOTOS BELOW

Now, all the rescued dogs are secure, with most placed in loving foster homes where they can begin to relax, recover, and adjust to life in a caring environment. While these foster homes are a wonderful start, each dog still hopes for a forever family.
