My heart shatters as I share the story of a little dog named Figgy. At the age of 18, this Toy Poodle was surrendered to a vet for euthanasia. Blind and toothless, Figgy sought love and affection in his final days, but instead, he found himself abandoned, scared, and alone. When the vet clinic staff asked the owner why they wanted to euthanize him, the response was chilling: “He’s stupid.” Everyone at the clinic was shocked by such coldheartedness.
After taking one look at Figgy, the staff knew they could not go through with the euthanasia. They conducted tests and discovered that, despite being blind, arthritic, and toothless, he was relatively healthy for an 18-year-old dog. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
The vet clinic reached out to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco, California, which quickly agreed to take Figgy into their care. Given his health issues and traumatic experience, Sherri Franklin, the founder of Muttville, brought Figgy to her home.
“He was a total love bug and slept curled up in my armpit. I just loved him,” Franklin told The Dodo. Fortunately, it didn’t take long to find the perfect home for Figgy. Just four days after arriving at the rescue, he found a new forever home. An experienced hospice owner named Eileen reached out as soon as she heard about Figgy. She thought he was perfect, unlike his previous owners. “He’ll be our fifth hospice angel,” Eileen told The Dodo. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
Figgy was finally home—safe, warm, and very loved. His last days would be filled with affection.
“I couldn’t help but think that these precious angels had given their love and loyalty to someone their entire lives and didn’t deserve to die alone in a shelter. They deserved love, comfort, and security for whatever time they had left, and I knew I could provide that,” Eileen said. WATCH VIDEO BELOW
We are so happy that this sweet, elderly gentleman has found his special person who will love and care for him until the end.
