None of us likes to see a stranger at the door, let alone in our own apartment. While unexpected visitors can be unsettling, it’s usually not the kind of surprise that involves animals—especially not a dog. One day, Kayla Sargeant opened her apartment door to let in some fresh air. As she turned away, she suddenly felt something behind her. When she turned around, she was shocked to find a dog standing there.

Kayla and her roommates couldn’t have known that their open door would lead Fatty to a new beginning. “He’s doing great now,” Kayla shared. “He’s clean, loved, happy, and well-fed! We’ll take care of him as long as he needs.”
Now affectionately known as House Hippo, Old Man, or Stinky Boy, Fatty enjoys a life filled with love, good food, and a cozy bed. With two of Kayla’s roommates being veterinarians, he’s in excellent hands.
